Euphonic Sound Presents A Global Rhythms Event
Cats: Music Culture, Music Promotion|By Shawn Daley
Global Rhythms is a Toronto charity founded by Jagger Long that raises funds to help put an end to child poverty. I met Jagger at the Velvet Underground a couple of weeks ago at a 48 Caliber show. After conversing about Toronto’s local indie music scene, Jagger mentioned his foundation Global Rhythms, and explained what they’re doing to raise funds and awareness of global child poverty. I was definitely impressed with what I heard, and I scheduled a meeting with Jagger a week later to discuss ways in which Euphonic Sound could work with Global Rhythms.
First though, a little history about Global Rhythms from Jagger himself:
I organized a fundraiser for Chi Ki Children’s Charity in the summer of 2007 where I had 5 local independent musicians and artists perform. The event was a huge success and everyone had great time. The event was on Saturday July 25 and by the following Thursday, I was contacted by THREE bands who mentioned they would help out with another event.
I was not planning on hosting another event BUT the universe had other plans for me! I continued to do a few more smaller, intimate fundraisers for Chi Ki and then decide that I want to live the rest of my life making a GLOBAL difference. So I went for a walk and thought about how I can achieve this goal in the quickest way possible? I decided to fund raise for local Toronto Charities who are already doing beautiful work on different continents! The next question was “what do I call my initiative?”
It wasn’t long before I heard a voice say…”Global Rhythms.” I then had to come up with a cool tag line. I came up with “Music scene and heard locally BUT more importantly, felt globally”. Sylvia Charzcuk, the Founder of Chi Ki Children’s Charity mentioned to me that she recently attended a World Youth Conference in Europe and they gave advice for organizations having a really short tag line. Listening to Slyvia’s advice, we came up with “Music played locally, felt globally”
There you have it.
After our meeting, we decided to team up for a series of summer showcases in June, July and August. We’ll be looking for any and all bands/artists who are interested in taking the stage to help raise funds for the fantastic charities Global Rhythms is working with. The events will be a full night of music, along with goodies like door prize tickets and gifts for guests, awareness speeches in between sets, and Euphonic Sound will be giving away free studio time to one artist at each event.
We’re searching for artists who are interested in playing any of these events, and each and every genre is welcome to participate. The more, the better. Please spread the word to any artists you think may be interested. They can contact us right here for details, or visit the Euphonic Sound Presents A Global Rhythms Event page over at the Euphonic Sound Website.

Shawn, time will pass and you can either choose to do something worthwhile or not… always choose the thing that matters and that makes a difference… usually… there are no regrets… and the coolest thing is it reinforces the fact that we are all connected to and responsible for the well being of others… I am very proud of you…
