Indie Artists: Fan Lists
Cats: Music Promotion, Wisdom|
Managing a Fan List can be hard task for some musicians. And no, a fan list is not just your Friends on Facebook or MySpace, its a collection of subscribed fans, who want to be contacted personally with all things you.
This is also worth a lot more, as they generally include more information such as: city, phone number, e-mail address.
It can hard to manage and add to, and even to find people for. Thankfully there are services for this purpose. One of the better services is FanBridge. It allows links to be added to your blog/Facebook/MySpace/band page that subscribe the fan to the list.
FanBridge allows you manage and view information about the fans. Those listed above, but also has message tracking information, to see which fans are truly following, and reading messages. You can also sort the list in a variety of ways, to target only certain people, and avoid that annoying factor.
After the list has been built, you have to use it for what its for. Its your soapbox, use it as such.
Make sure to send out news, not just about shows and albums, but treat it as a blog.
New music fans are relatively spoiled, there is more fan interaction. People want to hear everything about an artist, and because they’re your fans, they’ll listen. Its the same concept as a successful blog: the more you update, the more successful it will be.
People get bored easily, and if people find you interesting, they’ll tell other people, spreading your reach.
Be sure to include other places that people can find out more about you and your band.
Mention them in the e-mail, put it in the signature, whatever you want, just make sure its in there. People are more partial to click something, rather then have to search for it themselves.
Use fan lists to your absolute advantage. You want to tie that relationship with your fans as close as possible. They’ll be more likely to come to your shows and buy your CDs.
Everything’s available for you, just make use of it.
