The Indie Artist X Project, which we’ve been following for a few months now, has come to a close.

The mystery artist was revealed to be Austin Collins of Austin Collins and the Rainbirds.

The project wasn’t a complete success, in the fact that he didn’t obtain superstardom, however, he did garner more attention, and had industry professionals help him move up a few rungs in the ladder.

You can read David Rose’s (the leader of the project) Wrap-Up post here.

Hypebot’s (a partner in the project) Wrap-Up Post here. Contains great insight in to the project’s successes and failures, which can be applied to many indie artists.

And as discussed in the September stats update, here is Austin’s website, which, as discussed, is more user-friendly than pretty, but very functional (note the music keeps playing no matter which page you switch to).

Here’s a quote from Austin’s follow up post, which offers some great insight into why he chose to participate in the project.

When the Indie Artist X Team approached me about the project, I remember telling them, “I’ll work harder than anyone, I just don’t know what to do.” And that’s when the fun started, because they told me. Here’s what I have to say to each of my fellow artists out there who don’t want a “regular fucking job”:

1. It’s a lot of work.

2. Make Friends.

3. Get in the van.

4. Technology is your friend
