new-music-3

Full Disclosure: I was expecting to see and hear a bunch of stuff I already knew about how the Industry is destroying music. That ain’t what happened.

This is a fantastic dissection of everything that’s wrong with mainstream music & radio. With insights from superstars like Questlove, Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt & Erykah Badu (as well as lesser-known veterans like Doyle Bramhall II, Nora Jean Bruso and some very articulate music fans of all genres), we get a nice wide window on the deliberate destruction of musical innovation and creativity in favor of profitability. We also get to know a bit about the massive companies responsible for it.

There’s also a generous collection of wicked performances.

Interesting note: Doyle Bramhall was poised to catch the torch from Stevie Ray Vaughn. Seriously. This guy is a phenomenon. Dropped by his label because he wouldn’t dumb down and stagnate.

After all that, he’s gone & done his own thing – and is now being hailed by Eric Clapton as the “heir apparent.” Guess you don’t need a label after all, huh?

Enough from me. Now watch it if you haven’t yet:

P.S. Erykah Badu won herself a new fan by being in this movie.
