The Square is an attachment designed to function with any phone that has an audio jack (currently only working with the iPhone and Android) created by Jack Dorsey. Now, after the show, when your credit card toting fans approach the merch table at a gig, you can smile and whip out your iPhone, rather than shamefacedly directing them to your band’s website – where you accept PayPal and GoogleCheckout – and desperately hope the fan is still that pumped after making the trek home or waking up hung over the next day.
Not much info is available thus far, but the pay scheme supposedly will be similar to PayPal, with a per transaction fee instead of monthly fees or contracts. Keep an eye on this one!
Semi-update: CD Baby also offers a free (30$ deposit) credit card swiper if you’d prefer a less technical route.

You have an excited fan who really wants to buy your CD, t-shirt, sticker, whatever, but they only have a credit/debit card. For most of us, this means a lost sale. However, this new product, called the Square will remedy this nicely!
