“Beverage World” crosses IATSE picket line
Cats: Oddities|UPDATE: The strike has been settled.
A tense moment was caught on film yesterday at the Shaw Festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake by Shaw employees on strike.
This strike is not about money, but job security. To be specific 16 custodial support staff are asking that their seasonal contracts be secure – they want to know that the Shaw will not decide to outsource their contracts. They want to know that, as long as they are fulfilling their responsibilities, their contracts will be renewed each year.
The driver of the Beverage World van crossed the picket line after being asked by picketers not to. The video shows one bad ass Shaw worker informing the driver that “we will never buy your product again…”
The Shaw production crews and Front of House people are not gaining anything personally by being there. But the solidarity they are showing to their fellow workers in the support services is highly commendable.
Updates on this story and what you can do to support IATSE coming soon. For now check out the video below. Is it to late for Beverage World to make amends with the strikers?
