These two videos are hilarious. But don’t let that devalue the message. I believe the humor is meant to underline the points. I have been recording bands for over 15 years and it is shocking how often I run into these issues with bands (and the musicians that solo artists bring in).
If I could add one rule to the 8 outlined in these two videos, its don’t ask your friends or family members to play on your record. The one rare exception being if your friend or family member is an accomplished pro musician. You would be horrified to know how often great singer songwriter types bring in their crappy unaccomplished “musician” friends to be featured on a song or two. Just don’t do it. Your record deserves inspired musicianship. Do not settle for anything less.
