Here is a collection of 20 songs that I’ve really like so far in 2013. The styles range from folk to hip hop to synth pop and indie rock. I like what I like.
Haim and Laura Mvula are #1 and #4 on the BBC’s Sound of 2013. Fyfe is a Londoner. IamRomans seems to be from the UK, as is the band Primitive Parts (Another Night one of my fav’s on this list). I couldn’t find much info on either of these acts. It looks like Primitive Parts records at London’s Sound Savers recording studio (Another Night is streaming on the Sound Savers SoundCloud). I found out a dude named Shaun Hencher is responsible for Primitive Parts so I messaged him on Facebook asking where I can hear more. No response as of yet.
Other notable mentions from this list is the previously unreleased track from the Brilliant Sufjan Stevens. Nowhere To Go But Down is a little taste off of Ron Sexsmith’s new album. There’s A Fire is a B-side from the Dirty Projectors Offsprings Are Blank 7″. Sacrilege is a great new song from the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s. And Toronto’s Urbnet label artist Pigeon Hole has just released an awesome album. And I produced Giving In by Cherina and Davina (also on Urbnet), which they released on February 14th.
The only song I couldn’t find on SoundCloud was Ghostface Killah and Adrian Younge’s 12 Reasons To Die. Video embedded below.
Have a listen to these tracks and let me know what you think. Have you heard any bangers this year that you recommend?Print This Post
